I Left My Heart in San Francisco...

....in a small shop in China Town. There they were, the best knockoff purses I had ever seen, for $50-$80. At the time thought that those were ridiculously priced for a “knockoff.” Then I came home and priced them. What I wouldn’t give to go back to that shop in China Town. I would buy the giraffe print Dooney & Burke purse, with the red lining and a matching wallet. Then I would buy the classic black Coco Chanel purse.

Don’t think it hasn’t crossed my mind to just go back to China Town, because it has. But once you factor in two tanks of gas and eight hours of time, it seems like maybe I should just buy the $500 originals. Ha! Yea right, I’d still save oodles of money.

This liking of name brand items is a new development for this frugal girl. I’ve never bought any wallet or purse that was over $20. For the past year I’ve been toting a handmade purse my girlfriend made me (which is cute, with Amy Butler fabric) and occassionally my $2 thrift store find (a giant bulky, dirty briefcase type of deal). It is definitely time for an upgrade.

Think about it, your purse is the one thing you use day in and day out. I might forget to wear my glasses on occasion, but I always have my purse when I leave the house. You have it come hell or high water. I don’t know about you, but I carry things for my husband in my purse. So it could even be considered a mutual investment, if you will.

Until I have a spare $500 sitting around, I will regret the day I didn't buy those purses. Anyone know of any great knockoffs I could get online?
