Sir Sunderland and I were once firm believers in auto pay. You set it up, they pay and you don't even have to worry! I so wish that were the way it worked.
Our problems originated a year ago, when Wells Fargo opted not to pay our rent due to a holiday (Veteran's Day). You think they'd pay it the day after, the Friday before? Or how about a nice little email alerting us? We knew nothing until the day we arrived home to a late rent letter on our door. I have walked down and hand delivered our rent ever since.
While looking at our power bill (which I signed up for auto payments about 3 months ago), I noticed our last month's bill hasn't been taken out and a nice little late fee tacked on. Yet there right smack dab on top of that last bill are the words, "Do Not Pay, We Will Take it Out." Or will they?
After a phone call with a polite gentleman I am informed that the person who put in our bank account number put it in wrong. They acknowledge that it was their fault and took off a $10 fee they tacked on there. How nice is that!?! I had no idea and it's been over 2 months since I sent in my request. 2 months and they can't send me an email or call me?
As for taking out the money? Oh, they'll just take out the lump sum of 2 months when it's due this month. THANK YOU! And that late fee? Oh yea, umm they'll take that off too. What about the time it took me to call the jerks? Can they give me that 15 minutes back of my life?
So now I am fully prepared to cash our paychecks at the casino down the street, enjoy a free drink, some free slot play and pay all our bills from the coffee can I am going to bury in my tomato plant on the porch.
