1,500 miles...

Last Thursday we departed Reno to head out west, for wedding #3, a beach wedding in Southern California.
There was a ton of junk food during our first 9 hour drive. It was no wonder that we were ill upon arrival and fell into a post travel/junk food coma in our hotel room. With time to kill before the 5 pm wedding we ventured down to "Harbor Village" in Ventura the next day. I researched things to do before we left and this Harbor Village boasted 30 shops, restaurants, a carousel and an awesome 1920s themed hamburger bar. We pulled up and deemed it a bust. The shops? Crap. The carousel? Inside an arcade. We then walked along the beach and got our feet wet then went back to the hotel for a nap.
For our trip back we decided to make it a two-for-one deal, detouring to Jake's grandfather's in Northern California. I of course demanded a pit stop at Solvang. We spent hours walking around the funky Danish town, stopping in at the "Smorgasbord" for lunch. As my mother taught me, you must try new things. I opted for the local faire of danish sausage and meatballs. Ewww! Serves me right, we were indeed in California, not Holland after all. 10 hours later we finally arrived in our hotel where we crashed for the night. Sunday was a day full of visiting with family on Jake's grandfather's gorgeous ranch-style land where we picked pomegranates and his grapefruits. We ended our trip in Gardnerville, picking up Sophie from the in-laws, where we also scored ripe tomatoes from their garden as well as an absurdly large zucchini I can't wait to grill.

That's it for our summer travels. The car needs an oil change, some new tires and a nice rest, which I believe we need as well. It's a good thing we like each other, as 22 hours in a car with the wrong person could go horribly wrong.
