For our trip back we decided to make it a two-for-one deal, detouring to Jake's grandfather's in Northern California. I of course demanded a pit stop at Solvang. We spent hours walking around the funky Danish town, stopping in at the "Smorgasbord" for lunch. As my mother taught me, you must try new things. I opted for the local faire of danish sausage and meatballs. Ewww! Serves me right, we were indeed in California, not Holland after all.
10 hours later we finally arrived in our hotel where we crashed for the night. Sunday was a day full of visiting with family on Jake's grandfather's gorgeous ranch-style land where we picked pomegranates and his grapefruits. We ended our trip in Gardnerville, picking up Sophie from the in-laws, where we also scored ripe tomatoes from their garden as well as an absurdly large zucchini I can't wait to grill. That's it for our summer travels. The car needs an oil change, some new tires and a nice rest, which I believe we need as well. It's a good thing we like each other, as 22 hours in a car with the wrong person could go horribly wrong.
