Peanut Allergy

Sir Sunderland has come down with random allergies in the last year. To name a few that we have found through self-discovery are:
  • Lemon (he can't even have a slice of lemon set atop his water without breaking into hives)
  • Lime
  • Lobster
  • Certain types of beer

Typically he has a swollen forehead, red face and hives running down his neck. He drinks some water and it goes away.

Now, peanuts and nuts in that family are a different breed. He gets a crippling stomach ache when he eats a bag of chips that were made in a facility which "May contain nuts." He steers clear of anything involving nuts, and so far we have been lucky....until tonight. After taking the grandparents out to our favorite Chinese restaurant, Sir Sunderland felt funny, had a stomach ache and was short of breath. Short of breath?! Sweet jesus, this is serious.

While we were trying to decide on whether or not to go to the ER, Sir Sunderland goes into hyperventilation mode. Luckily we were a block away from the ER, trying to find parking when it happened.

I whipped that car around and came to a screeching stop at Valet in front of the entrance, threw my keys at the guy while telling him "HE CAN'T BREATHE!" and assisted Sir Sunderland into the ER. We were helped at once, taken into a room for oxygen, then 2 hours later after being pumped full of steroids and pepcid, we drove home. Yes, you read that right 2 hours! It was amazing. Apparently you don't have to wait 10 hours when you can't breathe.

All of this was perfect timing, as Sir Sunderland has an appointment to be tested for all sorts of allergies at his allergist on.....FRIDAY.
