Welcome to Reno!

I came across Blog Trotting, a blog that takes you along on travels via blog authors, and realized there was nobody representing good ol' Nevada! Have no fear, I have taken on the task and am here to introduce you to Reno, The Biggest Little City in the World!

We are nestled up against the Sierra Nevada mountains which provides plenty of terrain for anything and everything you wish to do. We have forest to the West and desert to the East. In the winter, you hit the slopes. In the summer you can swim, hike, camp, whatever you wish.
Did I mention Lake Tahoe is forty minutes away?

We have 4 main events that, I believe, define Reno
The Reno Balloon Races: When hundreds of hot air balloons fill the park down the street at 5 am and take flight around the city.
The Rib Cookoff: A street full of RIBS. Not just any rib, but ribs that are in a competition. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Hot August Nights:  The city reverts back into the 50s, when everyone comes into town with their souped up hot rods and classic cars. The city is full of show and shines, sock hops, cruises and competitions.
Street Vibrations (my least favorite): Motorcycles invade Reno and annoyingly cruise around town. I'll let this clip from South Park speak for me.
These events are mainly in Summer, but don't you worry, there are plenty of other things to do the rest of the year. We've got the beautiful Truckee River that cuts right thorugh the center of the city that not only provides a nice scenery, but also great fun in the summer. Our downtown area is full of art, bars and oh, yea, I forgot, gambling! Sometimes it's fun to hit up a casino, $20 in hand, and hit the penny slots. While playing, those lovely cocktail waitresses bring you drinks and the next thing you know, it's been three hours of drinks and entertainment for only $20 (sometimes you win too).

When I came up to Reno from Las Vegas for college, I fell in love. There are four definable seasons, so many things to do, yet the town is small enough it's not quite a large city. It's no wonder Sir Sunderland and I had no questions of where we were going to settle and raise our family.

I hope you enjoyed your visit!
