And I put them up in our apartment, badly. I was unaware that you could actually mess such a thing up, but that I did. The grouping of frames above our couch looked like just that, a grouping of frames, put up by a five year old.
So when we moved into our house I was bound and determined to move it to our staircase and make it all I imagined and more.
I read that you should cut out the size of your frames in paper and put them on your wall before committing to hanging your frames. So I did, with poster board I had laying around. And I left it on our wall for months. To, you know, really make sure I liked where they were.
And then I committed and hung the frames. The first holes we put in our walls. As you can guess, it didn't turn out too hot.
- Poster board is too thick and when you hammer a nail through it and rip it off the wall, it's difficult to pull it off and leaves poster board behind.
- Poster board/paper doesn't give you an idea of what the photo and frame actually look like.
- Don't do this project alone.
- Don't try and create a small little grouping on a HUGE wall.
- Use nails, not the little picture hanging hook things. Those make life 10x more difficult.
When I planned on painting my foyer I decided the pictures on the staircase would get a revamp as well. And so I hit the internet for inspiration.
I was not going to screw it up this time. No sir. Here are just a few of gallery walls I found while perusing Pinterest. This way I knew what I was going for, and could show Sir Sunderland what I mean when I say "gallery wall."
I'm going to have to say the inspiration (and my mom who helped immensely) really made all the difference this go around. Stay tuned to see how it came out.
