The Holiday Creep

The leaves are starting to change here, well some of them are. You kind of have to hunt for them, but they are changing. The first sign of fall that and the drop in the temperature. I simply love that first storm of fall, when you wake up to the rain, with a chill in the air. However, it is still September and the temperatures are still in the 90s on most days. It's hard to remember that the official day of Fall isn't until the middle of September, and Mother Earth isn't turning her heater off a day sooner.
I have to admit, working in the retail/restaurant industry has sucked me into the premature holiday celebrating. I used to work at Bed Bath & Beyond where they put Christmas stuff out in October and my holiday spirit typically began in October, along with it. The Consumerist has so lovingly tagged this "Christmas Creep" and people have sent in their spottings, going back to August. It's insane how we go shopping and don't blink twice at the entire aisle setup for Christmas, and it's only September 12th.
So, this year I am not allowing myself to get sucked into this "holiday creep." I refuse to drink Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte until Sept. 22nd, when the temperatures drop and it is officially fall. I will not put my pumpkin cookie jar out until Oct. 1st, but with every night that gets colder, and every leave that I see change color and fall, I am in deep anticipation of the joy and delight my favorite season will bring.
