Friends, Food and Good Times

The Superbowl party was a success. I have to be honest. We have an amazing group of friends who show up for whatever party they get an invite to. We have all perfected the art of a simple get-together. It typically involves mass amounts of beer, snacks and either music, Rock Band or a tv show of some sort.

The Superbowl was just that, a simple get-together. We provided the basics (wings & sandwiches) and asked everyone else to bring something superbowl oriented. We got soda, an entire aisle of Raley's liquor aisle, giant bottles of wine, pita chips, hummus, "trailer trash dip" (which turned out to be cream cheese and chili) and chips and salsa. I must admit I was surprised at the lack of potato chips and/or the typical sour cream dip. But our friends are the best at bringing the rest of the fix-ins. We’ve found this to be the most cost-efficient way to throw a party. That way the host doesn’t get stuck with the $200 bill of alcohol and food. The best/most disturbing item brought was the meat cake. From the outside it seems like your typical 3 layer cake, just with bacon bits sprinkles. Cut into the middle, and surprise! It’s 3 layers of meatloaf, and the red frosting, mashed potatoes. Only a few were brave enough to try it.

And of course, we all enjoyed the 3D portion of the superbowl, which turned out to actually suck. We did all enjoy the hype of the 3D glasses, however. It was good times had by all, sports fan or not. We laughed at the commercials, Bruce Springsteen’s crotch collision with the camera, and were pleasantly surprised by an hour of our favorite show, The Office after the game (which was a great game). And the best part of it all? Our apartment is spotless (after the party is cleaned up).
