Is it just me or do taxes seem less like a chore this year and more of a civil duty? The country is in a recession, you hear about billion dollars of debt, billions of dollars needed to give the country a kick in the butt. This is my first year as a grown-up, having to actually pay taxes instead of getting a return. At first I was a little shocked and appalled. After I realized that I am a grown-up with a husband who earns a grown-up's wage I was brought back down to earth. As the days pass I can't help but think of what our tax dollars go towards. Suddenly it doesn't seem like as much of a burden. If I can help boost our economy, repair old schools or build a kayak park, then I will gladly, instead of grudgingly, do so.
