The Drama of a Wedding Dress

Our first item of business, my wedding dress. This wound up being way too much drama that lasted months. You could have asked any of my bridesmaids a month prior to the wedding and they would have no idea what dress I chose, as I chose my mind on a weekly basis.

It began with a gorgeous dress I found in a magazine. I looked up the designer and where it was sold. There happened to be a boutique in Las Vegas, where we happened to be visiting family the next month. I called and setup an appointment. My Mom and I woke up early on a Saturday and headed to this boutique. It was amazing. The lady who helped us was young, hip and from one photo and a small discussion she picked out about 5 or 6 dresses I drooled over.

I wanted a short dress, this much I knew. I also "knew" that I didn't want to wear a veil. The cute girl put one on me anyways and my Mom cried, and so did I. It was one of those moments I will remember for the rest of my life. From that moment on, a veil was imperative.
This was the dress she had that resembled the photo I brought in. I immediately fell in love and was ready for my Mom to drop a grand then and there. As usual, Mom knew best and "we" decided we'd shop around.
One slight problem, short dresses were not in style in 2008 (but they are now! I know, I'm a trendsetter, what can I say?), especially not in Reno. I went to every bridal boutique in Reno and not a single one had a short wedding dress. I finally opted for this long one.

It was nice, just not me. The search for a short dress was on. I attempted getting Sir Sunderland's grandmother's 1950s wedding dress altered (to a larger size), yet it fell to pieces when you touched the lace. I stumbled upon this dress at a thrift store and after paying $30 it too fell to pieces.
Would you figure that the "wedding dress" of my dreams turned out to be a $200 BRIDESMAID'S DRESS?!?!?!

It took some imagination on my part (the color, adding a petticoat, etc.) but it turned out perfect. The perfect length, a great color for my skin and most important, classic Lauren.

A friend of mine did the same thing - kept changing her mind about the dress!! But I think what you ended up doing was beautiful!! And the veil definitely worked :)

The second dress you have in your post is the one that I wore in 2006. It was a different color, but I loved it. I love the choice you made on your final dress!

I love the short dress, it's very vintage. Good for you for being patient and getting the exact right dress.

I loved the short dress look too and told my Hubbs when we renew our vows I'm wearing my original dress for the ceremony and a short one for the reception. You looked beautiful!!
