The Sweet Taste of Freedom

As I sit here, drinking my last free drink from Starbucks, I am beyond elated. So beyond, in fact, I'm confused.

On the one hand I couldn't run out of that place faster than if it was on fire. On the other, it is the job I've gone to daily for the past two and a half years. It's familiar and to take that away is kind of scary. But don't you worry, I have the reminders of what an awful atmosphere the place really was:
  • Upon leaving on my last day, I had to listen to a fellow employee whine about another employee
  • I reek of coffee
  • My manager gave me a going away card, that effectively tried to make me feel bad for leaving
  • Nobody cared about me and I didn't care about them after working together for two and a half years. I never exchanged a "lets keep in touch" to a single fellow employee.
And the list goes on and on. It's the menial things like this that made the job so difficult and not worth the stress and what I need to remember. Sure it's scary to abandon the familiar, but the journey ahead is going to be so enlightening. I can't wait to see what it brings.

Well, I'm glad you are leaving if you were working in an unhappy atmosphere.
