Thank Goodness for Baby Showers

Gwen's outfit that matches her baby shower
We decided Baby G was ready to start solids, based off of a couple tips her attractive pediatrician told us to look out for.  We decided  Sunday was going to be the day.  We dug into the box of baby shower gifts that were for her older stages,  which I haphazardly stashed in our guest room. Low and behold we had all the tools necessary to get her started. We even had the rice cereal in our pantry that was handed down to us.

As expecting parents, we had no idea what we needed. My mom and mother-in-law threw me an awesome baby shower and we were showered with gifts. We registered for the necessary things, threw around the idea that we didn't even need a crib, and scoffed at the idea of a $100 crib bedding set. Then Baby G came along and we have been saved by the baby shower gifts on many an occasion. For instance yesterday when we needed baby spoons and a bowl for her rice cereal that wasn't 5 year old tupperware that's been lord knows where.

It just really makes you realize that there's a reason for traditions like baby showers. At the time I wasn't really aware of the severity of how insanely necessary a baby shower is. I just like to have parties, and when I get gifts at these parties I like them even more. But I had no idea how the baby shower would save our lives once the baby came. We use every single thing we got as a gift on a daily basis. Her play pen with a vibration setting? Lifesaver when she first came home. The teething rings that were the only thing to sooth her when she was sick? Heaven sent. Or how about the rattles and books and things that entertain her for hours on end? We would've never thought to get these things. Thank goodness for the baby shower tradition. Otherwise I fear our darling Baby G would be dressed in a onesie sleeping in a box with no way to eat because we didn't buy a breast pump.

And you know what? I never properly shared my amazing baby shower details. So here they are, 7 months later. It was one heck of a shower, let me tell you. My mom planned every last detail down to the picture frames she bought and painted just for the event to the labels on the bottled water.

This cake was from the same bakery that made our wedding cake. The best part? It's not fondant, it's cream cheese frosting!

There were so many presents. We had to take a break for cake in between all the present opening.

My Mom has been collecting apothecary jars for quite some time and brought her collection all the way up from Vegas for the occasion
What baby shower is complete without baby shower punch? And of course, Mom's signature mulled cider
